Our cooperation partner Saferinternet.at looked at the new Snapchat update.
Snapchat has made a new update and many users are upset! It's a little unusual: Your friends' stories are suddenly where only the chats used to be and the discovery area consists of popular, public and official stories. But little else has changed.
Saferinternet.at took a close look at the changes and provided information:
New look first for young users
We could see from the example of Safer Internet Day that the new look reached younger users first: we old people couldn't use this year's geo filter, but our younger “Snapchat friends” could. This in itself is nothing unusual, almost all social networks do it this way: first the young, then the old. However, the trade press suspects that the new update is primarily about reaching the “old people”. Snapchat is being redesigned to make more money - and that doesn't work with the young, but rather with the financially strong old people. It has been reported for some time that Snapchat is said to be having financial problems and therefore wants to take new paths.
Terms of use – really understandable
An update also comes new terms of use . And here we come across something surprising: they are formulated in an absolutely understandable way. Even if many users won't be clear about what this actually means, the simple wording still a step in the right direction . Children and young people can also get smart here - ideally with the support of teachers, for example. B. as part of geography and economics lessons.
The terms of use require a minimum age of 13 years.
Great feature: clear cache
Lately we've been hearing about teenagers who have temporarily deleted Snapchat because their cell phone doesn't have enough storage space. There is a way around this in the app: empty the cache. Not a new feature for Snapchat professionals, but still practical.
How-to: Settings > Account Actions > Clear Cache
Here you can either empty everything at once and thus free up some space or delete individual areas. Snapchat justifies the need for the cache by saying that it makes the app run faster.
