Germany's most famous streamer and YouTuber MontanaBlack is retiring indefinitely. He was “physically and mentally at the lowest point of his life,” he wrote on Twitter. Online activities are currently not doing him any good, which puts him in a number of influencers; Sophia Thiel and Melina Sophie recently reported similar moments.

Why are more and more young people suffering from stress?

Becoming an influencer is a common career dream today. But what starts as fun for many ends as illness for some. Burnout syndrome is affecting more and more young people and is becoming more and more present in the media. The rhythm of general life is becoming ever faster, even leisure time is becoming an event of “self-optimization”. Having to be constantly available and constantly having to produce and share new content puts many well-known influencers under such stress that they develop illness-causing suffering. By the time you recognize this in yourself, the feeling of being burnt out has already progressed to such an extent that complete withdrawal is the result.

Burnout: recognize and act

In everyday life, many people find it difficult to recognize stress symptoms and take them seriously in a timely manner. The transitions between positive stress and stressful levels of stress are fluid. But if the stress becomes too much and lasts over a longer period of time, it affects people on three levels. On the one hand, the body sends warning signals such as high blood pressure, tension, headaches, susceptibility to infections or sleep disorders.

“Changes can also occur on a behavioral level. Anyone who notices that they are now reacting irritably in situations that were previously accepted with calm should take notice,” explains Maike Mallison. A high level of stress also manifests itself on an emotional and cognitive level: difficulty concentrating, self-doubt, fear of failure or feelings of loss of control indicate that the emotions are negatively influenced by the stress.

Self-reflection and self-acceptance lead out of the crisis

Anyone who discovers the typical symptoms has a difficult step ahead of them: self-acceptance. Especially young people who are in the public eye as influencers, for example, find it difficult to accept that their energy is not infinite. However, you don't have to be a famous YouTuber to have difficulties with self-acceptance - for many people, having to admit to your friends and family that you no longer have any strength feels like an admission of your weakness. But the opposite is the case. Anyone who recognizes their burnout through self-reflection and seeks professional help is a good role model for other sufferers.
