Young people spend a lot of time on social media, but which social media platforms are actually the most popular?

Snapchat and Instagram are the most popular social media platforms among Generation Z. This is shown by a survey by the US investment bank Piper Sandler in the USA among 10,000 teenagers and young adults between the ages of eleven and 24.

Facebook and Twitter out

In addition to purchasing habits and media consumption, the semi-annual report also analyzed preferred social media platforms. It is an important tool for companies, advertisers and marketers who want to understand and reach Generation Z. Accordingly, Generation Z spends around 4.2 hours a day on social media.

The most popular portal is Snapchat. 35 percent of those surveyed said the portal was their favorite platform, followed by TikTok at 30 and Instagram at 22 percent. Instagram, on the other hand, remains the most used social network. However, Twitter and Facebook performed very poorly, with only two percent of the young people surveyed each saying they were their favorite platform to use.

A huge market power

While Baby Boomers and Generation The young generation clearly relies on image and video content. Facebook and especially Twitter cannot keep up. Even if Facebook is trying to appeal to the younger generation with new features, the current whistleblower affair surrounding Frances Haugen is likely to damage its public reputation.

Generation Z has impressive market power. By sharing, liking and commenting on social media, she is shaping trends like no generation before. She slowly grows up, starts working life and earns her own money. She finds inspiration and entertainment on social media platforms.
