In the GLAAD rating, which is based on a survey of LGBTQ people, all major social media platforms perform poorly in this regard.

Poor balance sheet

All players are a long way from a possible 100 percent for optimal security, privacy and freedom of expression for users from the LGBTQ community: With a meager 48 percent, Instagram performed best, followed by Facebook (46 percent), TikTok and YouTube (45 each percent) and Twitter with 43 percent. LGBTQ people are also interesting from a business perspective as positive advertising media for brands for social media companies (press release reported HERE ) .

GLAAD criticizes the fact that the platforms have drawn up self-obligatory guidelines to protect LGBTQ users. However, these are inadequate. While TikTok and Twitter prevent their users from mislabeling or naming people, this is not the case with Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. Each platform has bans in place to prevent harmful anti-LGBTQ advertising, but all five do a poor job of preventing the dismantling and removal of LGBTQ content.

Lots of hate speech

Another report from the Anti-Defamation League shows that 66 percent of LGBTQ people surveyed said they had been subjected to hateful harassment online. In addition, 54 percent of them reported “severe harassment,” which includes threats of physical violence, stalking, sexual harassment and doxxing.
