As the Federal Office for Information Security currently reports, an increasing number of spam emails with malicious attachments or links are currently being sent in the name of several federal authorities.
The Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) calls for particular caution and warns against opening these “federal authorities” emails and links. Several confirmed Emotet infections in federal administration authorities have been reported to the BSI in the past few days. There are also other suspected cases. The BSI is in close contact with the authorities concerned. These are initial infections that lead to further spam emails being sent in the name of those affected. There has been no damage to the authorities so far as the infections have been isolated and cleaned up.

To do this, the sender name should be checked carefully, not just the displayed name. The email should be checked carefully for inconsistencies. If in doubt, you should check with the alleged sender by phone to see whether they actually sent an email. In addition, running macros when opening Office documents should be avoided and, at best, prevented centrally.
If a suspicious email or the corresponding attachment has nevertheless been opened, users should inform their IT security officer immediately.
