“Dear customer, you must confirm your identity in order to continue using your online banking,” is the content of a message sent via SMS. “Sparkasse” appears as the sender. There is also a link that you have to click on to “confirm” your identity online.

Of course you want to continue using online banking. But be careful of this SMS.

Phishing in the name of the savings bank

The link looks quite plausible, but the banking company states on its website that it does not send SMS to customers:

Important : The savings banks generally do not send SMS messages. Not even if you want to be called by your savings bank and arrange a callback online. It’s best to call your branch yourself before responding to the demands in an SMS.”

Sparkasse – What is phishing?

Requests that a login or confirmation is required otherwise a certain service or access would be blocked are typical of phishing.

If you are unsure: ask

However, if you are not entirely sure whether the message could have come from the listed sender, simply ask directly.

This has the additional advantage that the alleged sender finds out about fraudulent activities in his name, can take action against it and can also warn and inform his customers or users in advance.
