Everyone knows those posts that appear in the Facebook timeline but do not come from friends, pages or groups: You can read “Sponsored” in small letters underneath.

“Sponsored” means that someone has paid money to Facebook so that certain user groups can see this post. That's fine as such, after all Facebook also wants to make money and retailers and service providers can make themselves better known.

However, what has been causing anger recently is that
Facebook is acting according to the motto: “Money doesn’t stink”. You can often find advertising in the timeline that is anything but serious, but rather misleads users and lures them to dubious sites.

Here we show you a typical example:

A site called "Hair Zone" advertises an article that apparently just tells the success and failure of a man, a typical tabloid story for in-between times.

Now let's take a look at the page so you can see what we described above:

For reasons of transparency, the paid advertisements of a page are displayed under the item “Page information & advertising”; the article that then appears in the timeline of many users is visible here.

So far everything is legitimate, but now let's take a look at the article that is being advertised there:

Visually, the user thinks he is reading an article from “Zeit Online”, but the internet address shows that we are on the website “the-hair-zone.com”.
There is already a deception here, against which “Zeit Online” could in principle take legal action, since their logo is being misused for an article that is certainly not from them: it is about advertising for Bitcoin trading.

The user will now be redirected here:

A site called “BitcoinTrader” puts you under time pressure to register as quickly as possible; grandiose promises are also tempting.
However, we strongly advise against registering because this involves risky trading with binary options .

This is a highly risky model, some of which is also offered over the counter. Definitely not a product for beginners! Two actions can occur with binary options: The predicted event occurs, whereby traders receive a predetermined amount. The predicted event does not occur, causing traders to suffer a loss.

When trading binary options, consumers can earn money if their assessment is correct. Online binary options trading involves numerous risks. For example, you may not receive a payout of your winnings, you may end up with providers who manipulate prices, or your personal information may be used for crimes under your name.

Conclusion

There is nothing wrong with sponsored advertising on Facebook. However, Facebook doesn't pay any attention to who advertises there! In this case, a more or less emotional article about a man's financial fate is presented, but ultimately the user is only lured to questionable trading sites.
