Stolen social media and entertainment accounts are being sold profitably on the Dark Web at increasingly lower prices

As the “Whizcase” reports, accounts from Netflix, Apple Music, Disney+ and six other accounts from the entertainment sector are available for just $15. When it comes to communication, Gmail tops the list at $45. WhatsApp is available for 18 dollars, Zoom for ten dollars. When it comes to social media, LinkedIn is the undisputed leader at $45. Facebook follows at $14 and Reddit is a bargain at six bucks. The complete “price list” can be found HERE .

Payments continue

Most credentials sold come from social engineering or phishing campaigns. With social engineering, hackers use interpersonal influence with the aim of stealing legally acquired access data. The rightful owners of these accesses will be excluded, but their credit or debit cards will continue to be charged. The only way they can defend themselves is to cancel the cards, says Whizcase. Instead of selling their “loot,” many hackers use the stolen accounts to run bots to manipulate social media engagements.

The advantage for cyber criminals over setting up their own bot accounts is that the hacked accounts originally belonged to real people, which means that social network manipulation campaigns will be much harder to detect. You can buy 1,000 Facebook likes for a page or post for just eight dollars. “For the price of a hot dog, someone could make a profile look more popular than it is,” the platform warned.

Identity theft is booming

Cyber attackers are creative. They could cheat those affected out of money by pretending that it is used to support Ukrainian orphans. Sometimes they go on shopping sprees with stolen data or commit crimes in the name of those they have stolen.

In many cases, personal carelessness is to blame for the success of cyber gangsters, for example because most social media users share personal data with complete strangers without inhibition, warns Whizcase.
