38 percent of those who stream videos on the Internet do so every day. Another 46 percent several times a week. This is the result of a representative survey commissioned by the digital association Bitkom among 1,163 people in Germany aged 16 and over, including 1,012 Internet users.
Streaming: Almost everyone does it, anytime, anywhere
According to this, a total of 87 percent of Internet users or 75 percent of all German citizens surveyed are already streaming videos on the Internet. In 2021 it was still 70 percent.

Video streaming takes place on a variety of platforms and portals. Dedicated video streaming portals such as YouTube, Vimeo and Twitch are clearly at the top in terms of popularity. 85 percent of internet users watch clips etc. there, 6 percentage points more than in 2021. Time-shifted viewing of programs that have already been shown on linear TV is behind (71 percent), but has lost 6 percentage points compared to the previous year. In third place is streaming series and films via on-demand portals such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video or Disney+ (61 percent). 4 out of 10 internet users (41 percent) stream videos on social networks such as TikTok, Instagram or Facebook.
37 percent watch live streams of current programming from linear TV channels - a decrease of 7 percentage points. One in four also streams sporting events on specialized portals such as Sky, DAZN or Eurosport Player (25 percent).

1 percent admit to using illegal streaming portals.
Linear TV remains highly relevant
But linear television also continues to be a fixture in the German entertainment canon. 91 percent of all respondents watch classic television via cable, satellite or antenna at least now and then. It turns out that the older people are, the more inclined they are to classic TV. Among 16 to 29 year olds, 80 percent still watch traditional television from time to time, 89 percent of 30 to 49 year olds and 95 percent of 50 to 64 year olds. And almost all seniors over 65 watch classic TV via cable, satellite or antenna (97 percent).
