Six high school students shared pictures of Hitler and photo montages of unconstitutional organizations in a WhatsApp group chat.

Students spread right-wing radical images via WhatsApp – The most important thing to start with:

In a group chat with around 90 members, images with right-wing extremist ideas were shared. Students reported this to the school administration. The police are investigating this case.

Group chats on WhatsApp with prohibited content

At the Rainer-Maria-Rilke-Gymnasium in Icking, Bavaria, students have created several WhatsApp group chats that can only be viewed by them.
In one of these chats with around 90 members, six students distributed Hitler pictures and photo montages with banned symbols of unconstitutional organizations. The police have definitely ruled out a right-wing radical background.

Students provided information about the content

The reactions from other WhatsApp group members were clear. So other group members asked the students to leave it alone. The school was also informed about this by group members. This shows that there is a high level of sensitivity towards right-wing ideas.

Police are investigating

The head of the high school, senior director of studies Astrid Barbeau, immediately informed the school community in a circular and also called in the police.
She knows that young people test their limits, but in this case the pictures clearly crossed a line.

Chief Inspector Steffen Frühauf, spokesman for the Wolfratshausen police, emphasizes that a right-wing radical background can definitely be ruled out. During a visit to the Rilke-Gymnasium, he pointed out to the students, among other things, where the area of criminal law begins and what consequences this can have.

Serious allegations against students

The allegations against the six high school students are serious. This includes incitement to hatred, passing on unconstitutional license plates and threats. Because – as Frühauf reports – a student was insulted and threatened in the chat because of her apparently misleading statement about climate change.

The six high school students were investigated, and the Munich public prosecutor's office will decide on further action.

School did everything right

Steffen Frühauf praises the school's approach to this matter. He also finds it impressive that the director, Astrid Barbeau, her colleagues and her students have been intensively dealing with the topic of “social media” for a long time.

Barbeau is pleased that the student representatives also reacted to the case and, accompanied by teachers, went from class to class to discuss things with their classmates.

“The transmission of values and respectful interaction are very important to us,” says the senior director of studies. “Conflicts must be resolved in a personal conversation. We don’t rely on repression, but on reflection.”

Conversations were held immediately after the incident with the students who spread banned ideas in the WhatsApp group chat in question. The parents were also brought in so that they could approach the incident constructively.
However, Barbeau does not rule out educational measures. Only when all the facts are known and the public prosecutor's office has made a decision will “individual measures” be taken against the six students.

Education in schools is extremely important

Hitler photos or porn pictures that you receive on your smartphone are quickly forwarded to friends. Police spokesman Frühauf describes this as “typical of young people and a phenomenon of our time”. This usually happens out of sheer thoughtlessness and rarely out of conviction. That is why it is extremely important that education is given priority in schools.

Barbeau is encouraged by the reaction of the students, who immediately understood.
