In times of energy crisis, sites called getvoltplug, getvoltbox or getecotex advertise an attractive offer: a device should help you save up to 90% of your electricity bill. But be careful! the Watchlist Internet, it is a scam.

The product should be very easy to use. You buy it, plug it in and the device does the rest for you. This is an attractive offer, especially at the moment when electricity, gas and other goods cost so much more. There is no such device! Criminals try to lure you with empty promises.

As early as April 2022, T-Online, Heise in November 2021 . The devices allegedly use a “ groundbreaking power stabilization technology (EST) with reactive power compensation ,” which is intended to stabilize the flow of electricity in the home and increase efficiency.

But that's not all: the device prevents " unnecessary electricity from entering the electrical lines and overloading the network ." reduce the “ high-frequency current flow in cables ” and thus “ artificial electromagnetic radiation eliminate harmful current peaks And also there is “ less noise on the sine wave ” of the power lines. Understood?

Maybe the device can really do that?

No.

Heise's colleagues bought the device and completely took it apart to see exactly how it works - other than the fact that it lights up a green light.

Accordingly, the device is based on a fine surge protection for two-pole power networks, to which a “black block” has been added, the “filter element” on the left in the picture. An orthopedist placed the block under an X-ray machine and found only wire ends and an amorphous casting compound - an electronic placebo, so to speak.

The only functions of the device are a green light and a bad overvoltage limiter. Otherwise it does absolutely nothing, especially not magically saving electricity through nonsense electronics as described on the websites.

How can I recognize fraudulent offers?

Watchlist Internet readers report that they came across the getvoltplug website through Google ads. Criminals often place advertisements for fraudulent online shops in order to appear trustworthy. This makes it even more difficult to recognize which online shops are legitimate. A few aspects can still help you:

  • Did you find an imprint? Most fake shops do not have an imprint, or one that has been copied from a reputable company. You won't find any on getvoltplug.com.
  • Do you find grammatical errors or language changes? In this fake shop, for example, the data protection declarations and general terms and conditions are in English, the rest in German. In addition, grammatical errors or spelling mistakes can be a sign of a fake shop.
  • What are the prices like? Prices at fake shops are often particularly low in order to be more attractive to potential victims.
  • Internet Research : Search the Internet for the website using keywords such as “fake” or “reviews.” If it is a fake shop, you will often already find warnings that will help you.

Have you ordered from this shop?

  • We recommend that you contact your bank as soon as possible. Try to get your money back. However, you have no legal right to a refund!
  • Watch out for unusual charges in the future, as your credit card details are now likely to be in the hands of criminals. Contact your credit card company to discuss how to proceed.
  • Report it to the police.
