Fraudsters are still sending fake SMS in the name of DHL. However, the alleged tracking website leads to an expensive subscription trap.
In the SMS, the scammers claim that a package has been stopped at the "distribution center and a payment of 2-" would be required to deliver the package.
However, if you comply with the request and enter your data at the end, you will have a nasty surprise: it is a subscription trap .
Detailed analysis
Many people are currently receiving an SMS from TrackInfo – supposedly a package is still in Terminal 21 and should be picked up today. Information would be required to receive the package. The sender provides a link for this.
Anyone who follows the link will reach an extremely professionally recreated DHL website.
A tracking number is already noted on this fake page. We click on the magnifying glass and go to another page. This informed us that our package was on its way, but had been stopped at the distribution center and a payment of 2 - (plums, towels, euros?) was outstanding. [mk_ad]
If we pay the amount, the package would be “processed”. So we click on the “To payment” button and go to a data entry mask. And this is where the trap finally snaps shut!
In the small print you will find this extremely interesting information:
By clicking Continue, you agree to our Terms of Service. You can find out how we collect, use and share your data in our data policy. Our Cookie Policy explains how we use cookies and similar technologies. Gym tracker. net is a product based on an automatic subscription 69.00 eur and will be renewed at the end of the 5-day trial period unless canceled before the end of this date.
So all of this was just a pretext to lure the SMS recipient into an expensive subscription trap!
Conclusion
The scammers don't shy away from misleading the SMS recipient!
DHL has nothing to do with this, the company's name is being misused to make the victim believe that it is about a package that is stuck.
In reality, they want to lead the recipient to take out a subscription. [mk_ad]
Tips:
If you are actually expecting a package, do not follow any link provided, but instead go to the package shipping website manually and type in the shipping number by hand.
The postage amount of 2 euros also seems very low.
If in doubt, ALWAYS contact the parcel delivery company and inform them about the SMS you received!
