Patrick applies for a job and creates his CV on CVS.com. The tool is easy to use and seemingly free. He types in all the information and wants to download the result. Apparently the download costs €1.45. Since Patrick put a lot of time and effort into creating it, he pays. But four weeks later he is very surprised. €29.99 was debited from his credit card. The following month again €29.99. How is that possible? Our cooperation partner Watchlist Internet has examined the site.

What does CVWriting.com offer?
At CVS.com you can create a CV online and download the result as Word and PDF - this is what is offered on the website. In just 3 steps you have an “excellent CV” in your hand and probably for free. Because there is nothing to be found about costs for the time being.
We tried out the tool straight away and created a CV. The resume generator is easy to use and allows you to enter all important data.

After we have painstakingly created all the data, we now want to download our result. But that is not possible. The download costs. There are 3 different packages to choose from: € 1.45 | €1.95 | €10.45.

How does CVS.com lure you into a subscription trap?
Anyone who has put a lot of effort into creating a CV on CVS.com will most likely pay the small amount and be surprised a month later. By paying the amount you have taken out a subscription that costs you €29.99 per month.
The provider writes in the small print that you are taking out a subscription that costs €29.99 every 4 weeks. This information only becomes apparent when you scroll down.
“Your subscription will automatically renew after 14 days unless you choose to cancel. Extended subscriptions are billed every 4 weeks at €29.99. You can cancel at any time.”
Since you were only informed about this contract in the small print and contradictively, this subscription contract is invalid. Even if you have voluntarily provided your credit card details or email address, no legal contract will be concluded. With a little time and effort, you can get your money back.

How do I get my money back?
- Check your credit card statement or website for contact options.
- Contact the dubious subscription provider and demand immediate cancellation and a refund of the debited amounts.
- Please point out that this subscription contract was not legally concluded because you were not clearly informed about the conclusion of the contract.
- If the dubious subscription providers do not respond to your request, contact your credit card company. Request a refund of the debited amounts. Because: Amounts that were debited from you without your consent (e.g. amounts that were not adequately mentioned during the purchase or that exceed the value of your order) must be refunded by your payment service provider in accordance with Section 67 of the Payment Services Act 2018.
- Also try to block the subscription provider from further charges to your credit card, if possible.
