The claim
A video claims that someone received 310 euros from the Nordhorn job center for the Muslim sugar festival.
Our conclusion
The responsible district of Grafschaft Bentheim has denied the payment and emphasized that such payments are generally not provided for.
video is currently circulating that supposedly shows someone receiving 310 euros from the Nordhorn job center for the Muslim sugar festival (Eid al-Fitr).
The Sugar Festival ends the Islamic fasting month of Ramadan and is one of the most important festivals in this religion.
As far as the claim in the video is concerned, the responsible district of Grafschaft Bentheim makes it clear: There was no such payment. In this article we will check the facts and clarify whether the job center actually pays out money for religious holidays.
Alleged payment for Muslim sugar festival
The video, which was recorded in the Lower Saxony town of Nordhorn, shows a man holding banknotes into the camera. He claims that his friend received 310 euros from the local job center after he applied for money for the Muslim sugar festival.

The location is correct, the video was actually recorded in the parking lot in front of Nordhorn-Blanke train station ( visual comparison archived HERE ). However, the exact date of recording cannot be determined.
No payment for religious holidays
The job center in Nordhorn is a municipal job center and responsibility lies with the Grafschaft Bentheim district. It is emphasized here that no payments are provided for religious holidays, including the Sugar Festival.
At the request of the German Press Agency (dpa), the authority clarified that the payment mentioned in the video never took place.
“The payment mentioned here due to the sugar festival is not part of the citizen's benefit, and therefore not a benefit under the Social Security Code II that is provided by the job center. The citizen’s benefit also does not provide for any separate assistance for other social or religious events (holidays, Christmas, etc.).”
Statement from a spokeswoman to the dpa
Legal basis
The Social Code (SGB) II, which serves as the basis for social benefits in Germany, does not provide for additional payments for religious reasons. According to Section 1 Paragraph 2 SGB II, citizens' money is aimed at overcoming disadvantages in accordance with Section 1 of the General Equal Treatment Act .
This means that citizen's money is aimed at preventing discrimination and not discriminating against non-religious citizens.
There is also no mention of extra payments for religious reasons on the overview page of the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs (BMAS)
Critical viewing of online content
The district is already aware of the video that is circulating. In the past there have been similar videos that were submitted to the district's job center. From the authority's point of view, the content of such videos should always be critically examined.
The German Press Agency (dpa) managed to identify the man from the video. There are further videos with apparently humorous statements about the job center on the TikTok channel he apparently runs. When asked whether the alleged payment of 310 euros could be proven or whether it was a joke, the man did not respond. And it is unclear whether the acquaintance of the man in the video meets the requirements for citizen's benefit.
Conclusion

The claim that the Nordhorn job center paid 310 euros for the Muslim sugar festival was clearly denied by the Grafschaft Bentheim district.
The Social Security Code does not provide for any additional payments for religious reasons. Such claims that are circulating on social media should therefore always be critically examined. Asylum seekers in Germany have certain requirements for receiving citizen's benefit, regardless of their religious affiliation.
