Because these will either be counterfeits or stolen goods and the import is already critical. It is quite possible that customs will immediately confiscate the newly acquired piece of jewelry. Unfortunately, instead of glitz and glamor, the following applies: nothing happened except expenses.

Is there also high-quality fashion jewelry?

Since ancient times, jewelry has been a status symbol that not everyone can or wants to afford. Only in the last few decades has costume jewelry become an inexpensive alternative to real jewelry: it is not made from precious metals and diamonds, but is usually made from cheap sheet metal and rhinestones or glass stones. In principle, there is nothing wrong with being able to buy new jewelry again and again to suit the occasion. However, there are some things that you should definitely pay attention to when it comes to fashion jewelry.

Sunglasses are more than just accessories

Sunglasses for women as well as models for men should not only look good, but also reliably protect the eyes from dust, dirt and, above all, the harmful UV rays of sunlight. It is not enough to simply wear any sunglasses: the glasses must have a good UV filter, which is not always guaranteed with cheap models from the souvenir shop or from the hawker. Then the effect is reversed, because the pupil dilates due to the tint of the lenses, allowing more harmful radiation to penetrate the eye. So it's worth spending a little more money and buying sunglasses from a specialist retailer. Your own health will thank you.

Although costume jewelry is not made of precious metal,...

... is still not identical always and everywhere. Manufacturers of fashion jewelry are not competitors to Cartier or other jewelry labels, but there are still high-quality products in this category. Artisans create costume jewelry from clay, ceramics, leather, wood, glass, semi-precious stones and countless other materials that can be enjoyed for a long time. Here you can also see the difference to the sheet metal jewelry mentioned at the beginning.

Because while it is not only cheap, but unfortunately also looks that way (and therefore has every chance of destroying an actually attractive outfit), high-quality costume jewelry is a likeable and quite attractive statement. You can buy it online, but also directly from the artisan himself, for example at the craft market. It's usually not just the jewelry itself that has an impact, but also the memory of the purchase itself.

How do you actually recognize real jewelry?

If you don't want it to be costume jewelry but real precious metal, we recommend buying it from a jeweler or goldsmith or from a qualified specialist retailer. You can almost always expect to get real quality goods there. However, there are some characteristics that indicate real or fake jewelry.

  • Embossing stamp: With precious metals, the fineness can always be recognized by an embossing. For gold, 750 means that the metal used consists of 75% gold. Alternatively, information in carats can also be recognized, but double marking is unusual.
  • Processing: Anyone who uses real precious metal makes no compromises when it comes to processing. An unclean setting, recognizable solder joints or clearly glued components will not be discovered in jewelry made of precious metal.
  • Nature is not perfect: That is why processed gemstones must be examined particularly critically. While glass stones sparkle flawlessly, diamonds almost always show small inclusions. Naturally grown pearls are not perfectly round for the same reason. Foils or the like are generally avoided with real stones, and these stones are always set and never glued. In addition, anyone who uses real stones will not combine them with base metals.

Be careful with supposed bargains abroad

Whether it's a necklace, ring or chronometer: anyone who is offered what appears to be real jewelry at a holiday destination at an objectively low price should definitely stay away from it. Because these will either be counterfeits or stolen goods and the import is already critical. It is quite possible that customs will immediately confiscate the newly acquired piece of jewelry. Unfortunately, instead of glitz and glamor, the following applies: nothing happened except expenses.
