The claim

Posts are circulating on social media claiming that Sweden is recognizing sex as an official sport.

Our conclusion

This is wrong. An association had applied to the Swedish Sports Association to include sex as an official sport. However, the request was rejected.

A Swedish association - The Swedish Sex Federation - has failed in its attempt to have sex officially recognized as a sport in Sweden. Nevertheless, the association does not shy away from practicing this sport seriously.

The title of some of the posts suggests otherwise. Namely, that the Swedes would now have an official sport.

What should that look like? Would there be live broadcasts of competitions? Would these then only be released for ages 18 and over? Would there be team competitions? Who would award points and in what form? What would the competition rules look like?

Much of this is answered in a tweet:

Among other things, the disciplines listed here are:

– Mastery Seduction
– Massage of different parts of the body
– Massage of the erotic zones on the opponent's body
– Foreplay
– Oral sex
– Penetration
– Endurance
– Appearance pose performance
– Creativity in changing positions
– Endurance and the number of orgasms
– Artistic performance and exchange of postures
– Increased blood pressure and heart rate during competition
– The most beautiful and difficult pose
– The most artistic communication

No, sex has not been recognized as an official sport in Sweden

Nevertheless, the fact is that sex is not a new official sport in Sweden.

An article in the Swedish newspaper Göteborgs-Posten corrects the claims. The Swedish Sex Federation's application was rejected by the Swedish Sports Federation (RF).

Behind the club is Dragan Bratic, who runs several strip clubs. Björn Eriksson, chairman of the Swedish Sports Association, told the newspaper: “It does not meet our requirements and I can inform you that this application has been rejected. We have other things to do.”

Eriksson also commented on this issue in the program “Efter Fem” (“After Five”) on TV4, a Swedish news channel , in January 2023: “I just hope this nonsense goes away. It will be a unanimous no from us.”

It is possible that a so-called sex competition could take place, but this would happen independently of the official Swedish sports association without membership or recognition.

Conclusion

Rating: FALSE

The claim is false. An association called The Swedish Sex Federation had applied to the Swedish Sports Federation to include sex as an official sport, but this was rejected.
