The article from an English tabloid page is causing a stir: Was the end of the world predicted by the new coronavirus 12 years ago?
At least this is what an article in the “ Express ” about which we received inquiries claims: The new coronavirus was predicted in 2008 in a book by Sylvia Brown about the end of the world.

“Coronavirus: Disturbing 12-year-old prediction warned the world of a pneumonia outbreak”
In German:
“Coronavirus: Worrying 12-year-old prediction warned world of pneumonia outbreak”
Specifically, it's about this excerpt from Sylvia Brown's book, which is shared on social media:

In German the corresponding passage is:
“Around 2020, a severe pneumonia-like illness will spread across the globe, attacking the lungs and bronchi and resisting all known treatments.”

The fact check
The paragraph comes from the book “End of Days: Predictions and prophecies about the end of the world,” which was first published .
The book was last republished in 2011, which is not surprising since the book's predictions about 2012 (the end of the Mayan calendar) were completely inaccurate; After that it didn't get a new edition.
It should be said that although there is actually no vaccine against COVID-19 disease yet, the human immune system fights the symptoms quite well and this works even better with medication support. So it is by no means the case that the new coronavirus “defies all known treatments”.
The year the book was published is also interesting in this context:
That prediction was made just a few years after the outbreak of the SARS virus, so the “prophecy” that a similar virus will appear in about 10 years is nothing more than a statistical stroke of luck .
Finally, it should be mentioned that this claim is just one of many “prophecies” that did not come true at all:
Supposedly there was supposed to be a cure for paralysis and Parkinson's since 2012, and by 2020 blindness will be a thing of the past.

Conclusion
The passage had already been distributed two weeks earlier, when it was said that it was part of a novel by Dean R. Koontz ( we reported ).
The “prophecy” that a virus will appear around 2020 that is similar to SARS, which appeared five years before the book was published, is more of a statistical stroke of luck, and the description of that virus is more than vague and sometimes inaccurate.
The rest of the prophecies in that book (yes, we really did it!) also fall far short of reality, so we can only judge this prediction as a statistical fluke regarding the year, which is not particularly surprising.
