In total, Russia wants to recruit 300,000 citizens for partial mobilization, but they will have to procure some of their equipment themselves. In this context, a video is circulating in which some men are listed by a female soldier and explained what objects they are. It seems unusual that they also have to take pads and tampons with them, but there is a good reason for this.

The video

The video can often be found on social media, for example here on Twitter:

The video has English subtitles, but the question often arises as to whether the Russian was translated correctly or whether someone was making a joke.

The translation is correct: Tampons and pads are also needed!

Fortunately, we were able to confirm that the English translation of the subtitles is accurate. Here is the translation of the relevant passage in German:

  • All the army provides you with are uniforms and body armor.
  • All of this also applies to medications, diarrhea tablets and hydrogen peroxide tourniquet bandages. I don't have enough tourniquets for you.
  • A conscript says: “ There are no tourniquets in the pharmacies.
  • Ask relatives ,” says the commander.
  • First aid kits for cars ,” she adds. “ Get car first aid kits and use tourniquets from them.
  • Ask your wives, girls and mothers about sanitary pads.
  • The cheapest pads and the cheapest tampons.
  • Do you know what tampons are for? You put it in the bullet wound and you're done!
  • The tampon swells and closes the wound. I have known this since the Chechen war.

So it's not a hidden joke, but pads and tampons actually fulfill a macabre purpose in the equipment.
