The claim
“Photo evidence” is intended to prove that the first German Leopard tanks delivered have already been destroyed in Ukraine. The Russians are said to have captured them.
Our conclusion
The photo is not current and has been in circulation since at least 2006. So it doesn't come from the Ukraine war. The image was also edited: the Russian flag was added to the photo.
Just a few days ago we reported on images circulating on social media that purportedly show the first destroyed Western Leopard tanks in Ukraine. But in many cases these are fakes and manipulations. picture of a destroyed tank is currently circulating again , which is supposedly a German Leopard-2.

In the photo you can see the tank stuck in the mud with a Russian flag attached to it. Under the picture it is claimed that it is the “first Leopard 2A5 captured by the Russians in Artyomovsk”. It appears to have been attacked on March 1, 2023 in the eastern Ukrainian city of Bakhmut (Artyomovsk) and captured by Russian troops.

Image is not from the Ukraine War
Through research, you can find that the picture of the tank in the mud has been on the Internet for several years - but without the Russian flag. It can be found in a series of photos with the date 2014 on the online page of the Chinese newspaper "Huanqiu ", which is published by the Communist Party's organ. The photo in question is also visible in a photo series from 2016 on the German-language Chinese portal “german.china.org”
Other older locations of the photo can be found in Russian-language forums with dates from 2006 and 2007 . However, the exact origin of the image is unknown.
False claim can also be read by the ambassador on Twitter
The false photo was also shared on Twitter Russian Deputy UN Ambassador Dmitri Polyanski He has since deleted it. False images had previously been in circulation that – contrary to claims – did not show the first destroyed Western Leopard tanks in Ukraine.
So far no German battle tanks in the war zone
In January 2023, the German federal government decided to deliver Leopard 2 main battle tanks to Ukraine to support the country in the conflict against the Russian aggressors. The Federal Ministry of Defense announced at the end of February that a total of 18 tanks would be delivered. While Poland had already delivered the first battle tanks to Ukraine on the first anniversary of the start of the Russian war of aggression, the federal government is planning to send the first Leopard-2s to the war zone by the end of March.
Conclusion

The photo showing a tank in the mud is not from the Ukraine war. It has been shared on the internet since at least 2006.
The image was also edited: the Russian flag was subsequently added to the photo.
