Unfortunately, Christmas time is also the season for pickpockets at Christmas markets.

Especially in the hustle and bustle of the Christmas market, when many visitors have their wallets in their outside pockets in order to be able to pay more quickly, pickpockets have an easy time robbing their victims of cash.

For example, an 80-year-old fell victim to pickpockets in Kaiserslautern on Wednesday afternoon. Unknown people stole several hundred euros, a bank card and identification documents from the woman's handbag.

Not an isolated case

During Advent, things are often crowded in the city center, at the Christmas market and in shops. People are crowded together. An opportunity that pickpockets like to exploit. This can also be on the bus or in line at the supermarket checkout.

In the crowd, the victims don't notice when criminals attack. You unnoticed unzip your handbag or pull your smartphone out of your back pocket.

Take precautions!

It is therefore best to stow your valuables under your outer clothing, for example in an inside jacket pocket. If you have a handbag with you, make sure that all buttons, tabs and zippers are fastened and carry it with the openings facing the side of your body.

Of course, thieves have an easy time with backpacks. The victims don't notice when someone is tampering with their backs. In a dense crowd, why don't you just carry your backpack upside down, i.e. in front of your chest and stomach? This way you have everything under control.

What to do after a theft?

If you have fallen victim to pickpockets, block all bank and credit cards immediately. This can be done in just a few minutes using the blocking emergency call 116 116. The blocking emergency call can also be used to block SIM cards and ID cards with electronic identity functions. Information about this can be found on the Internet at www.sperr-notruf.de . Be sure to file a police report. Maybe they have already found your wallet or caught the thief.
