A postman tattoo for Bello and a chic Egyptian god of the dead for Minka? Will tattoo studios for animals soon become commonplace?
We receive many, many inquiries about this article here:

Look what we just got! Now there are actually already #tattoo studios for #animals?! And what does animal welfare say about it? That's sick!
Our friends from Asociación Animalista Libera are also horrified! What's next?
Incredible! How do you find that?

The fact check
The online presence Netzfrauen is no stranger to us. In the past we have received countless inquiries about various Netzfrau articles.
In doing so, they repeatedly resort to so-called click bait, which, as in this case, does not even lead to the right topic or even half-truths that are published without reflection.
One remembers #puschelgate from 2015 or “ The dirty business with aborted fetuses ”, which is based on a core of truth, but a lot of information is missing, so that the reader can definitely feel the truth.
So let's now turn to the claim that there should already be tattoo studios for animals:
These are not the first images of tattooed cats (but also dogs) that have appeared on the Internet.
We had to deal with a similar case of a tattooed Sphynx cat The Ukrainian model Elena Ivanickaya had her Sphynx cat Yascha tattooed on the hairless neck of the Egyptian god of the dead. The procedure was carried out under general anesthesia under the supervision of a veterinarian - in a normal human tattoo studio.
In Austria, tattooing vertebrates for “beautification purposes” is prohibited according to the Animal Protection Act § 7 “Prohibition of interventions on animals” under point (6):
Tattooing or discoloring skin, feathers or fur for aesthetic or commercial reasons is prohibited unless it is a measure for professional animal identification.

And in Germany , vertebrates are not allowed to be tattooed for aesthetic purposes. This is what it says from a judgment in the case of a tattooed pony (Rolling Stones Tattoo) from 2010:
The realization of an animal owner's aesthetic wishes is not a reasonable reason within the meaning of Section 1 Sentence 2 TierSchG for tattooing animals
…
The administrative court dismissed the lawsuit through the contested judgment to which reference is made. It stated: The regulatory order was necessary to prevent violations of Section 1 Sentence 2 Animal Protection Act and Section 6 Paragraph 1 Sentence 1 Animal Protection Act. Tattooing is associated with pain for the horse in question and is not covered by a reasonable reason. It serves the economic interests of the plaintiff. The ban does not violate the plaintiff's fundamental rights.

On July 21, 2010, the defendant registered the business “tattoo service for animals” and tattooed a pony with a Rolling Stones tattoo on his hip – mind you, without anesthesia.
Nevertheless, in the future you won't soon find a tattoo studio that tattoos animals on every corner, that's why these laws exist. Because even if the animal was anesthetized during the tattooing process, every tattooed person knows from their own experience that the healing of the freshly inked tattoo can be unpleasant or even painful.
But what are the photos of the tattooed cats shown? After all, here you see a man who is obviously in the middle of tattooing a cat.
Photo research and Russian tattoo artists:
The oldest image finds can be traced back to 2009, but here the trace is lost and the exact source of some of the photos used can no longer be clearly identified.
But to the cat, whose chest is decorated with a pharaoh tattoo.
This is Mickey, also a hairless Sphynx cat, from Russia . The owner's name is Oksana Popova and she had the cat tattooed in 2009. Mickey was also anesthetized for the three-hour session.
In the course of our research we also came across Timur Rimut – also from Russia. He tattooed his cat himself.
There is also footage of the procedure and a video on YouTube:
[ WARNING: This video could make sensitive people uncomfortable!]
Let's summarize:
- The link to the Netzfrauen article has completely different content than teased. It's not about tattoo studios for animals, but about animal food.
- In Germany and Austria it is forbidden to have animals tattooed for aesthetic reasons and to cause them pain for no reason.
- Some of the images come from Russia, where there have actually been cases of hairless cats being tattooed for aesthetic reasons.
Conclusion:
Yes, there are people who get their animals tattooed because they think it's "cool" - but this behavior also meets with massive criticism.

However, there is by no means a trend towards tattoo studios for animals in Germany and Austria.
The internet women were probably promoting an older article in the best click-bait manner, which has nothing to do with the actual topic.
