On Monday (August 22, 2022), the fraudsters contacted an 84-year-old woman and warned her about a foreign gang of thieves. The fake police officers manipulated the woman and told her that her money was not safe, which is why the senior citizen withdrew 200,000 euros from her account and finally handed it over to a supposed detective. The fraud was only discovered when the 84-year-old went back to the bank the following day to withdraw another 150,000 euros. The bank employee then became suspicious and called the police.

The telephone scammers don't care which scam they use, be it the so-called fake police officer, the grandchild trick or the shock call. The main thing is that they get to your money or valuables.

The police therefore give the following tips:

  • Don't let yourself be pushed or put under pressure.
Take the time to verify the caller's information. hang up and dial the police number yourself.
  • Do not reveal details about your financial situation over the phone.
  • The police will never ask you for any amount of money.
Never give money or valuables such as jewelry to unknown people.
