On Tuesday morning (November 22nd, 2022), a 69-year-old Ludwigshafen woman received a call from a supposed lottery company. The woman on the phone told her that she had taken out an annual subscription and now had to pay for it every month. The 69-year-old refused to pay, but gave the caller her account details during the conversation. When she noticed the fraud and spoke to the supposed employee about it, she immediately ended the phone call. A callback attempt failed because the number displayed was incorrect.

Although many citizens have already become aware of this, in individual cases the tricky fraudsters still manage to obtain large sums of money or valuables. Obtaining sensitive data such as account numbers is also a popular goal of such calls.

Do you know how you can protect yourself from such telephone scammers?
