Numerous reports report calls from a recorded voice asking people to press the 1 key. Don't follow the instructions! The criminals lure you into a cost trap or want to gain access to your computer via AnyDesk! This is reported by our cooperation partner Watchlist-Internet .

Telephone fraud is on the rise again, this time criminals have come up with several scams to lure victims into a trap. The fraudulent calls are mostly in English. The criminals claim to be from the police, have detected “suspicious activity on your network,” or accuse you of “identity theft.” We have received calls from numbers beginning with the numbers “0660 83”. However, such calls can come from different numbers.

You can recognize telephone fraud immediately using these features!

  • A recorded voice answers: Are you being called by a strange number and instead of a person, a recorded voice or a computer answers? These calls are often in English - possibly to unsettle the victims. Be careful, it could be a scam call!
  • You Are Accused: Is the recorded voice accusing you of a crime? Are the criminals pretending to be from the police or Interpol or have they allegedly noticed “suspicious activity on your network”? There is no need to worry, the allegations are fictitious.
  • Prompt “Press key 1”: A clear indication of fraud! We described a similar scam in which criminals pretend to be police in January. Don't follow the criminals' demands and don't press any buttons!
  • Request to install AnyDesk: If a caller asks you to install AnyDesk or another program on your computer, all alarm bells should ring.
This is a clear sign of fraud! Using this computer program, criminals can remotely access your computer and read your data and passwords.

Did you answer the call? This is what needs to be done now

Block the number immediately. report the telephone number to the Telephone Number Misuse Reporting Office You can also block the number on your smartphone. Instructions can be found on the Google Support page for Android phones and on the Apple Support page for iPhones .

If you have pressed key 1, you may have fallen into a cost trap: We assume that when you press key 1 you will be redirected to a premium rate number, which can be very expensive for you.

Criminals use the trick with key 1 again and again. Alleged promises of prizes, ongoing criminal proceedings or misuse of the social security number are examples that criminals use to try to entice victims to press the 1 button. What all of these calls have in common is that they want to unsettle the victims and lure them into a financial trap.

Do you have the AnyDesk program installed?

First you need to remove the program from your computer. A detailed description can be found here . You can also get help from IT technicians.

Did you enter bank or credit card details while the criminals had access to your system? Contact your bank or credit card issuer . Discuss how to proceed.

Have you logged into user accounts (bank, Amazon, social networks or similar)? Then you should change passwords ! If it is already too late, contact the relevant service and describe your situation.

Also, file a criminal complaint with the police .
