Who is that, you ask? This is a ghost girl who asks you to share a chain letter on WhatsApp otherwise she will kill someone.

What exactly is behind it?

“Hi-I’m Teresa Figaldo. Today is the 26th year since I died. If you don't send this to 20 people, I'll sleep in your bed today - FOREVER!! If you don't believe it, enter my name into google #or youtube. “Issoo believe me otherwise I’ll kill youHhahahahah”

This and similar, sometimes more or less detailed, is how the chain letter about Teresa Figaldo is going around on WhatsApp, currently again (or still). Children in particular quickly feel intimidated by the sometimes abstruse descriptions in various variations of the chain letter. A small example:

"I look terribly scary, you're almost going to have a heart attack. In the morning, when it gets brighter, I'll be with you all day long, throwing knives at you wherever you are and there, right there, it could end in death for you.But don't worry, if you survive, I will still be with you the next night, standing in a corner, and at 11:58 I will kill you in a brutal manner. You will bleed to death... I will drink your blood... eat your bones... and much more. And the next day you are already dead, and that's why your parents are killed in a brutal and harsh way, then your siblings and so on. So I strongly advise you to keep sending this chain letter!!!"

Teresa – a little personality profile

On the one hand, it is remarkable that Teresa, who has been dead for 26 years, is quite familiar with WhatsApp. At least there are probably ghost cell phones with which she can use unknown technology to check who distributed this chain letter and how often. In addition, with her time of 11:58 p.m. she shows real German punctuality, but her writing style suggests that she is at most 12 years old.

Adults wave away, but children...

...of course take such news seriously. And there is the great danger of this chain letter, which can really frighten children!

Teresa Figaldo – Who or what is behind this chain letter?

To do this we have to travel back in time a few years until we find the first traces of Teresa. And these are not found in a cemetery, but on the website of a Portuguese author and director .
The following statement can be found there:

“My name is David Rebordão and I am the writer and director of the short film A CURVA.
After months of speculation filled with fantastic theories about the film A CURVA, here comes the moment of revelation.

This page was created to show you the truth about the facts that created the most watched Portuguese short film.”

Specifically, that page was or was about his short film, which is about a girl named Teresa Figaldo. A group of young people looking for a location for their next film pick up a young girl who appears mysterious at a bend in the road ("A Curva"). The 2004 short film, which is 12 minutes long, received fairly good reviews Internet Movie Database,

Viral marketing

In 2004 there was no WhatsApp yet, so Teresa's scary story first spread via email. The director apparently felt inspired by the viral marketing of the film “Blairwitch Project,” which initially claimed on the Internet that all of the footage was real. The story about Teresa Figaldo was handled in the same way until the director finally explained the story and the alleged videos in detail on his website.

It is also worth mentioning that a modern version of the myth was planned in 2016, but it revolves around this chain letter and thus brought the fictional Teresa Figaldo back into the conversation. You can watch the trailer here:

Conclusion

There is no ghost girl named Teresa Figaldo. The story is based on the viral marketing for a 2004 Portuguese short film.

Concerned parents who notice that their children have received such a chain letter should of course talk to their child about it and explain in detail why this WhatsApp message is not just silly (the child will still believe it), but also why it is little explain how this message actually came about and what the purpose of it is.

So that the child understands that this ghost girl really doesn't exist and doesn't remain in a "But it could be true..." state!
