The claim
A video is said to show the current launch of an intercontinental rocket in Russia.
Our conclusion
In fact, Russia conducted a test of this missile on April 20, but the video that was circulated is from 2018.
It is of course good when important news is distributed quickly.
However, it is bad when these real news are supplemented with old videos, as the actually correct news is quickly viewed as fake news. The report from April 20th that Russia tested a ballistic missile has exactly this problem: the report is real, but the video is from 2018.
The message
On April 20, the AZ Military News account tweeted
“The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation carried out a successful launch of a stationary intercontinental ballistic missile “Sarmat” from the Plesetsk cosmodrome”
A 23-second video can be seen showing the launch of the projectile with a black and white checkerboard pattern.
Real news, fake video
It is understandable that breaking news wants to be spread as quickly as possible. Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile was actually successfully tested in northern Russia on April 20th (see HERE and HERE ). President Vladimir Putin boasted that the nuclear-capable missile would make think twice
However, it is less good if the real and disturbing report is accompanied by an old video, as this makes the entire message seem unbelievable. The widespread video is from 2018 , when Russia carried out a similar test launch of its intercontinental ballistic missile. BBC reported on it at the time:
There is also a video of the current test of the missile, which was shown by various news channels, for example here:
The current rocket is white and has a black head.
Conclusion
The news is real: Russia actually flexed its muscles on April 20 and tested an intercontinental ballistic missile with a range of up to 18,000 kilometers. Unfortunately, the widespread video about this is from 2018 and makes the real news seem like a fake.
