WhatsApp has the long-awaited Dark Mode and other news planned for its users in 2020
As we previously reported, some older operating systems will no longer be supported in 2020. Since January 1st, you can no longer use WhatsApp with mobile Windows versions. From February it will also affect iOS 8 (and older) and Android 2.3.7. But what news can WhatsApp users expect in 2020?
Advertising on WhatsApp
Facebook also wants to finally make money with WhatsApp. That's why it's obvious and has been known for a long time that advertising should be introduced. The display of advertisements within WhatsApp is scheduled to start in the first half of the year. Ads will be visible in the status area and are visually reminiscent of advertising on Instagram.

The schedule for the launch of the advertising and the design were shown in May 2019.

Self-destructing news
Send messages and determine in advance after which time they should “self-destruct”?
This is already possible in the latest beta version of Android. In the future, users will be able to set five time periods after which messages should be destroyed: an hour, a day, a week, a month or a year. In the beta version, this feature already runs with virtually no problems, so an official launch of the final version should take place shortly.

Pay with WhatsApp
The payment function for the main app and Facebook Messenger has already started in the USA. The service is called “Facebook Pay” and is scheduled to be introduced on WhatsApp and Instagram in 2020. This gives users another alternative payment option to similar services such as PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay. Facebook Pay is said to be elaborately encrypted and therefore extremely secure.

With Facebook Pay you should have the opportunity to shop or purchase items from certified Facebook Marketplace providers. Users can also send money to each other. In addition to various credit cards such as Visa and Mastercard, PayPal is also supported.

Dark mode
Users have been waiting for this feature for two long years. Screenshots of WhatsApp's Dark Mode have already appeared, and now it will finally be available in 2020. Users can then decide for themselves whether they want to activate dark mode or not. When dark mode is active, the aim is, among other things, to protect the eyes and extend the battery life of smartphones with OLED displays.
