Many children who have seen “The Little Mermaid” want to spend a vacation by the sea afterwards.

Because it could be that you get to see a real mermaid. Unfortunately, as you get older, this childish fantasy disappears... or it returns and manifests itself on the Internet!

can often find a photo of a supposed archaeologist kneeling in front of an astonishing find: the skeleton of a mermaid!

The image first appeared on various sites on the Internet in mid-2012, and at a suspiciously good time:
in May and June 2012, the mockumentary “ Mermaids: The Body Found ” (a Mockumentary is a documentary that is, however, purely fictional, from the English “documentary” + “to mock” = to mock).

The Bulgarian site " actualno " reported on June 25, 2012 that the skeleton of Professor Bozhidar Dimitrov was found near the beach of Sozopol, a city in Bulgaria on the Black Sea. The photo is said to have first appeared on journalist Petar Genchev's Facebook page, but was deleted minutes later.

The digital mermaid

If with the above picture and the story we have raised the hopes of all the young at heart that mermaids do exist, then we are sorry... but you should know us better, because after all, we are there to clear up fakes and hoaxes . 😉

The image above is the work of graphic designer the1calledDANO , who also posted the image in his portfolio on DesignCrowd . He took part in a competition in which prizes were awarded for the most beautiful skeleton hoaxes.

A nice selection of the best images from it (and we keep coming across some of them as supposedly real photos) can be found here on DesignCrowd .

By the way, the graphic designer used a real photo of a found skeleton as a template; here you can see the two images in comparison:

Conclusion

We can still only see mermaids in films. But a vacation in the mountains is really nice... and you might even spot the Yeti there!
