There is a strong warning on Facebook not to accept the friend request from “Johnny Williams”.
This warning is not completely wrong, but it is very likely that it will no longer help.

“Can you warn the girls on your page not to accept a friend request from Johnny Williams. He is a scammer and is trying to contact women through your profile.”
Who is Johnny Williams?
We have a small problem: This name is so common that a lot of “Johnny Williams” are suspected, most of them probably innocent. They are certainly not happy about being innocently branded as fraudsters at least January 2018
What is or was the purpose of this warning?
In contrast to other chain letters that warn that “ Ute Lehr ” or “ Paolo Tizzanini ” are hackers (and which are not true), this chain letter contains a grain of truth: At the time, it was most likely a romance scammer .
These are Facebook profiles that specifically write to women in order to make them believe that they are in love and then take money out of their pockets. We have described how you can recognize such profiles in a separate article .
That's why the chain letter doesn't help
These profiles usually only exist for a few weeks. As soon as enough money has been obtained, the profiles are deleted and then recreated with new names and pictures. The “Johnny Williams” who was also warned about in English-speaking countries was most likely a romance scammer whose profile no longer exists.
Our alternative chain letter suggestion:
Don't warn about "Johnny Williams", because warnings about a single person whose profile no longer exists doesn't do anything. Instead, warn about the method itself and link to our article about recognizing such profiles .
Then you can really help your friends and acquaintances to stop such scammers.
