In Berlin are police officers allowed to hand out decency labels? If you go by this excerpt that is currently being shared on social networks, then yes - is that really true?
We received inquiries about an alleged excerpt from the “Law for the Protection of Public Safety and Order” (SOG). It is explained here that police officers are allowed to distribute a badge of decency to “ensure public safety and order”.
The letter is shared primarily via WhatsApp and looks like this:

Image in plain text:
SOG
§ 18 (5)*The modesty bell
1) Police officers may distribute a decorum badge to ensure public safety and order if and to the extent this is necessary.
(1a) The etiquette collar can be distributed within established danger areas without prior communication. Outside the established danger area, a one-time announcement must be made (see § 17 SOG Immediate Coercion).Instructions for action
1. The etiquette collar may only be distributed by police officers (at least after completing a career test!) with prior instruction.
2. The modesty collar may be used on people...
Is this actually an official excerpt from the SOG?
As the Morning Post reports, this letter is a forgery. Accordingly, Section 18, Paragraph 5 does not exist with such content. The SOG would also not apply in Berlin, because here there is the “General Law for the Protection of Public Safety and Order” and is officially abbreviated to ASOG Bln.
It is therefore worth carefully checking information that you receive, especially via Facebook and the like. Because even if something looks real, it can ultimately be a nasty fake.
