Can a parrot really tell so much? And also bark? A video with an African gray parrot amazes many people and prompts us to check the facts.

The most important things about the talking parrot in brief:

It is a video that was first published by the BBC in March 2019. In the video you can see and hear the parrot Kara from Scotland, including a Scottish accent.

The BBC released a video with a parrot as the protagonist on February 17, 2020. So far so good. But the exciting thing is: the parrot tells a lot!

And the whole thing with a Scottish accent, which in turn amuses many people. The BBC writes about the video: “Meet the parrot who enjoys Highland treks… and teasing dogs”. So a parrot who likes to go on trips to the Scottish Highlands and tease dogs. Here is the video:

Fact check: Who is the parrot?

We see Kara here. That's the name of the bird. Kara actually lives in Scotland, specifically at the Laggan Coffee Bothy and Gallery. She is an African gray parrot and was born in September 2011, 14 weeks after her birth she came to her "dad", at least that's how the owner chooses his own wording ( compare ).

Like many African gray parrots, she has an amazing vocabulary. On her Facebook page “ Kara's exploits ” you can find all sorts of stories from the parrot's life and also other videos.

What you also notice here: Even though the BBC posted the video in February 2020, it is still an older video that the broadcaster published for the first time in March 2019 ( see here ).

At this point, there were several media reports about Kara. In this respect, the parrot is not entirely unknown; there have been reports in the Scottish Daily Mail and the Sunday Mirror.

It's not just about the parrot's language skills, but also about her exotic hiking backpack, in which she takes part in excursions and hikes.
