Imagine scanning your social network (e.g. Telegram) and suddenly stumbling across an important warning: “Today or tomorrow your data will be published!” Sounds bad, right? But how often have we read such messages and asked ourselves whether there is any truth to this supposed “insider tip”?
The past meets the present: a Telegram chain letter makes history

This type of chain letter has been circulating on social networks since at least 2016, always with a vague time indication of “today” or “tomorrow”. And what has changed? Surprise – nothing! Despite these repeated warnings that our data is about to be exposed, in all these years nothing has actually moved in this direction.
The chain letter as wording:
"Important NOTE !!!
For everyone Don't forget that tomorrow the new Internet rules begin where you can use your photos. It can be used in court proceedings in legal disputes against you. Everything you've ever sent will become public starting today, including deleted messages or photos that aren't allowed. It doesn't cost anything, just copy and paste is safe. Channel 5 News spoke about the change in privacy policy of online portals/chat portals .
I do not give Telegram or any other Telegram affiliated company permission to use my images, information, messages or posts in the past or in the future.
With this declaration I inform Telegram that it is strictly forbidden to disclose, copy, distribute or
take any other action against me this profile and/or its contents.
The content of this profile is private and confidential information.
Violation of privacy can be punished by law (U2K 1-308-11 308-103 and the Rome Statute) I also communicate the same to WhatsApp and Facebook!
NOTE:
Telegram is now a public institution.
All members must send such a note!!!
If you want, you can copy and paste this version.
If you do not publish a statement at least once, this tacitly allows the use of your photos, as well as the information contained in chats,
TELEGRAM, WhatsApp or Facebook DO NOT HAVE MY PERMISSION TO SHARE PHOTOS OR MESSAGES.”
The “Channel 13 News” trick: If only they reported on it...
One of the many alleged "evidences" in this chain letter is the mention of a report from Channel 13 News. But a quick look behind the scenes shows that this specific news station never reported on such a rule change. How can that be? Quite simply: Because it never existed.
The power of words: what's really behind them.
A closer look at these chain letters quickly shows that they are just a mixture of different chain letters that have been modified and passed on over the years. Some talk about the Rome Statute, others warn about Facebook. But the core remains the same: a touch of panic, coupled with a pinch of nonsense.
Conclusion: Truth in the digital jungle.
It's understandable that in this information overload we fall for stories like this from time to time. But it's important to keep reminding ourselves: We shouldn't believe everything we read - especially not if it's spread repeatedly and without verifiable sources.
