A police cartoon – social networks are there to promote communication, right!?
Fake police officers on the phone! The police have published a cartoon by Tobi Simon about this fraud method, which shows in a simple way how fraudsters work. The perpetrators always act the same way. They pose as police officers, LKA employees or public prosecutors. They pretend that burglars who have been arrested have found evidence of an impending break-in and ask questions about money, valuables, jewelry and safes. They give supposed tips on how to store valuables, offer to check it on site or try to get people to hand over their money to the supposed police officers so that it can be kept safe with them.
What is particularly perfidious is that the telephone number displayed simulates a call from the police number 110 (in Austria, by the way, it is 133).
And the Schwaben Süd/West police ask on Facebook: Please pass this on - even outside of social networks (we're thinking of relatives, acquaintances, neighbors, ...) Thank you for your help!
The police don't work like this:
- You don't call 110
- They don't ask about their hiding places
- They do not collect your valuables
We advise:
- Do not give any information about your assets over the phone
- End such phone calls immediately
- Pay attention to those around you, especially the elderly
- Inform your relatives
- If in doubt, call 110
