Win, win, win… but don’t forget to share, share, share first! Once again, a competition page on Facebook is attracting many users under a false name, and an alarming number of them are falling for it!

This is what the still very young Facebook page called “Thermomix” promises:

Share Share Share Don't forget to share
You can win a Thermomix worth 1,349.99 euros on July 28th,
which you have to do to take part!
1. Click on I like and you will be entered into our lottery pot!
2. If you share the post you have a double chance!
3. Our page must be liked!
4. Comment with I want!

We will draw the winner from all participants on July 28th and notify them via messenger.
Good luck!

These competition pages always follow the same pattern: like, share, comment.

These are the three interactions with which a page achieves the most reach on Facebook without having to place paid advertising on Facebook. Of course there are competition guidelines issued by Facebook, but the creators of such pages are of little or no interest in these and Facebook itself reacts rather little. At least Facebook now gives you the option to mark such pages as “scam”. From a legal point of view, these competitions do not run correctly either, as there are no conditions of participation, contact information or legal notice. That contact link in the page's information is nothing other than a link to the page's messenger.

Why do we have doubts?

If you look at the “Info” tab on this page, you should find a contact and an imprint there. But the information shows absolutely nothing. You can't find an organizer, no contact person, nothing at all. They didn't even bother to include some pseudo-nonsense text, and the contact information only leads to Facebook Messenger.

“So what – a click like that doesn’t cost anything!”

Yes, that's right. A click on tempting competition sites usually doesn't cost you anything (as long as it's not a subscription trap behind it). If you define “it costs nothing” purely in terms of material values, then it will probably be that way.

But something can cost more than just money, because what it costs you here is priceless: it costs you your dignity - it costs you your credibility . It costs you your name when you take part in sleazy competitions that you know deep down are rubbish, but your desire is so great that you end up clicking.

It is your inner compulsion to which you succumb and all people can see your defeat - they can all see that you have given in to the hollow temptation. And it would be easy for us to publicly denounce you here. Everyone would see your avatar and your name, because you have immortalized yourself there and shown that you have dedicated yourself to the site.

You tell everyone your financial situation, you tell us your life plans, you even tell us your favorite color. And for what? For a small hope, for a bit of excitement, to win something “on the Internet” without much effort? For your trust in some unknown people behind the scenes who don't actually want to give you anything?

No, clicking here will not cost you any money. But if you ask yourself in the future why some people no longer take you so seriously , then you may have paid dearly.
