The right-wing side likes to emphasize again and again that they themselves are not that vulgar and brutal; it all comes from the “left”. Photos of “V men” are supposed to prove this. Current example: Thomas Victor

Thomas Victor is a photojournalist. He was also in Chemnitz in this role in the last few days. Now there are film recordings and photos that are supposed to prove that Thomas Victor himself “played” a right-winger and was only infiltrated there to incite people and put the right-wingers in a bad light.

Just one of the many posts circulating on the Internet and about which we received many inquiries:

“The man from Chemnitz who gave the Hitler salute is called Thomas Victor and is a freelance journalist for SZ, Spiegel, Stern and Die Zeit. He also provoked people with shouts like “Our motto is killing” and similar slogans…”

Question 1: Did he photograph himself?

As already mentioned above, Thomas Victor was also in Chemnitz and took some photos there. However, he must have had a camera with a self-timer on a tripod, otherwise we cannot explain this photo, for example, which was taken but supposedly shows him in the picture at the same time:

Question 2: The similarity

Let's compare the two people again.

If you look at the two faces very superficially, you can, with a lot of good will, see a similarity. This works best if you also squint a little and see blurry. Nevertheless, we will show the differences again:

1. Hair

Hair can be grown long (it just takes a little longer) and colored. But things get difficult when it comes to the parting, which is on the right side of the unknown gentleman, but on the left side of Mr. Victor. A professional makeup artist must have been at work.

2. Eyebrows and eyes

The unknown gentleman has very bushy, brown eyebrows, while Thomas Victor has very thin eyebrows. You can't clearly see the color of the gentleman's eyes in the demo, but they look brownish, while the photojournalist has light eyes. Also note the eye shape, which in the right picture below is straight, curved at the top with a downward curve, whereas in Thomas Victor you can see an evenly curved eye shape.

3. The nose

The man's nose in the demo has a bulging shape that becomes wider towards the bottom, while the bridge of the photographer's nose is evenly straight.

4. The jawline

Only at first glance both people have the same chin shape. In the left picture you can see slight folds of fat between the chin and neck, which makes the lower part of the head rounder overall, while you can't see this in the right picture.

Question 3: What does Thomas Victor say about the allegations?

We asked Mr. Victor to comment on the allegations. He kindly sent us this text:

“My name is Thomas Victor.
I am a freelance photojournalist and am often booked for reports and documentaries in the east of Germany. On Monday August 27th, 2018, ZEIT ONLINE commissioned me to photograph the Pro Chemnitz demonstration. The resulting images were used for various articles on zeit.de and in the print edition of ZEIT on August 30, 2018. On Wednesday, August 29, 2018, a friend pointed out to me for the first time that a rumor was being spread on Twitter and Facebook that I was an undercover agent who gave the Hitler salute at the demonstration on Monday. To do this, my author photo from zeit.de is compared with the picture of a man who shows the Hitler salute, but who has no resemblance to me. In the meantime, I received a call asking me how much money I received for the Hitler salute, various emails with similar content and threats, and various threats and insults on Facebook. This action against me and the thoughtless sharing of such obviously poorly done fake news disappoints my belief in people's reason. I will take legal action with the help of the police and a lawyer and continue to report from where reporting is necessary.”

Conclusion

No, the gentleman at the demo is not Thomas Victor.
The work of journalists is already difficult enough, especially at such demonstrations.
Whether a (former) LKA employee ensures that a camera team is captured for 45 minutes, you are insulted as a “lying press” or are insulted in some other way. And then there are these defamatory allegations. We have to say it very clearly: The smear campaign being carried out here by the right-wing side is irresponsible! Someone puts up a picture, claims that it is this person, and then it is passed around (including by certain parties!) as if it were an absolutely proven fact.

A personal note from the author:

In short: is it still possible??

You people who spread those pictures and memes and thereby target a photojournalist who bears no resemblance to the man shouting slogans at the demonstration into the sights of your inflammatory tirades: Do you actually realize what you are doing?

You accept that human lives and livelihoods are destroyed, that people have to live in fear because one of you with a baseball bat could be lurking around the next corner at any time!
Weren’t you all there to “mourn”? Is this what your grief looks like? Shoot your naked butt into the camera, shout slogans, give the Nazi salute and innocent people ?

This is not sadness. This isn't a protest either. This is sheer hatred and contempt for humanity that speaks from you.
