In addition to the thread method, which we will discuss in more detail here, there are several well-known and tried-and-tested methods such as: B. place your finger in cold water or rub it with oil or soap so that the ring can separate from your beloved finger. But what can you do if even these methods can no longer achieve anything, because e.g. B. your finger has accumulated too much fat or is perhaps so swollen due to inflammation that neither oil nor soap can have any effect?
A concerned goldsmith wrote to us saying that there is a very tried and tested thread method for this. However, there are videos of this method circulating online, which, according to the goldsmith, are rather suboptimal because they are simply used incorrectly. However, if used correctly it would have been very effective. This can prevent the ring from being sawed through.
What is the thread method?
starting from the fingertip , a wide, stretchy “thread” is wrapped tightly around the finger in the direction of the ring. Once you have reached the ring with the thread, thread it once under the ring. By wrapping the thread tightly around the finger – according to our goldsmith expert – “the blood or tissue fluid is drained into the hand.”
This causes the finger to swell and makes it easier for the ring to come off. This end of the thread, which is guided through the ring, is then unwound from the finger in the direction of the fingertip. Because the thread has been threaded through the ring, the ring is “automatically” removed as it unwinds.
Is the method presented correctly in videos?
Unfortunately, a lot of online videos about this method are wrong! That was also the reason why the goldsmith turned to us. In many videos, the thread is wound from the ring towards the fingertip. However, this would cause blood or tissue fluid to build up in the fingertip. This is exactly what should not happen. It is therefore very important that the method is used correctly.
Here you can see two videos showing how the thread method is used correctly:
What to do if the thread method no longer has any effect?
Then unfortunately there is no way around cutting the ring. According to our goldsmith, sometimes fire departments have special tools that can cut rings without injuring the finger. In such a case, the best thing to do is to ask your fire department whether they can help directly or direct you to another location.
