The bites of certain types of ticks can trigger a dangerous meat allergy. Special sugar molecules in the meat of mammals are responsible.

Ticks: Pork, beef or lamb meat can cause dangerous allergies. But because the allergic reaction only occurs hours after the food has been consumed, it is sometimes not even associated with the meat. Symptoms range from itching and rashes to swelling of the lips, eyes or tongue and even loss of consciousness. However, some also experience stomach and intestinal problems.

The cause of meat allergy is the bites of certain types of ticks!

Special sugar molecules in the meat of mammals are responsible for the allergic reaction: galactose-alpha-1,3-galactose - called alpha-gal. The cause of meat allergy is the bites of certain types of ticks. Alpha-Gal enters the human bloodstream through tick saliva. The immune system adapts to the invaders.

From now on, antibodies are produced every time the sugar molecule appears. An allergic reaction occurs. These reactions get worse with continued meat consumption, so that at some point those affected can no longer even consume foods containing gelatin.

If those affected consistently avoid meat and offal from mammals, they have a chance that their body will eventually tolerate small amounts of alpha-gal again.
