Until now, TikTok users could only LIKE, but not DISLIKE, videos and comments. As early as April 2022, TikTok confirmed that it was working on a downvote (dislike) button for comments. Now TikTok is announcing the global launch of the function on Twitter.

The new TikTok Dislike button only works for comments, but not for published videos/posts!

The downvote button as a feedback tool for inappropriate comments

TikTok explains that the downvote or Disklike button, which is located to the right of the well-known “Like button” in the comments, is intended to be a way for the community to give feedback to TikTok. This is intended to identify inappropriate and irrelevant comments.

If you tap the “Dislike” button, the creator of the video will not be notified . TikTok is not interested in providing feedback to the creators, but rather so that it itself, as the operator, can recognize which comments are “inappropriate”. However, the question arises as to whether this is also perceived by users, because users are more likely to use this button if they don't like the comment and not to report it to TikTok.

The total number of dislikes is not displayed!

TikTok wants to create a better experience for the TikTok community with the innovation of the “Dislike button for comments”. Therefore, the total number of dislikes remains hidden. Users can also undo their downvote by tapping the “thumbs down” symbol again.
