According to Insider Intelligence, the platform has been the third largest social network in the world since 2020
TikTok already surpassed Snapchat and Twitter in terms of user numbers in 2020 and continued to lag behind in 2021, according to market researchers Insider Intelligence http://insiderintelligence.com (formerly eMarketer). This makes TikTok the third largest social network behind Facebook and Instagram. TikTok will continue to grow in 2022 and reach 755 million users who log in at least once a month. That would be over 20 percent of these social network users.
Rapid growth
According to Insider Intelligence, the number of users is increasing rapidly. It was plus 59.8 percent in 2020 and plus 40.8 percent in 2021. Although this growth is slowing, it is still expected to be a whopping 15.1 percent in 2022. According to the forecast, TikTok will have 755 million monthly users next year, reaching a good fifth of the 3.57 billion people who will log in to a social network at least once a month in 2022. By 2024, around a quarter of social network users are likely to also or primarily use the platform.

“The rise of TikTok is particularly challenging for Snapchat, which is in direct competition with young users,” says Debra Aho Williamson, Principla Analyst at Insider Intelligence. What seems more remarkable, however, is that TikTok has also clearly outperformed the short message service Twitter. “While TikTok has few similarities to Twitter, its massive size compared to the more established platform reflects the addictive nature of TikTok content,” the analyst explains.
Solid number three
According to forecasts, next year the platform will have 755 million monthly users, almost as many as Snapchat (464.9 million) and Twitter (345.3 million) combined. Third place seems safe. However, further ascent is likely to be just as difficult. According to Insider Intelligence, Instagram will have 1.28 billion monthly users and Facebook will have almost 2.1 billion such loyal visitors.
