The claim
Social media claims that Titanic magazine published a cover in June 2023 with a caricature of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the headline "Successful counterattack in its own pants."
Our conclusion
Our research shows that no such Titanic cover existed. Instead, the June 2023 issue of the magazine was dedicated to the European border and coastal protection agency Frontex.
The power of social media is shown once again in the rapid spread of a supposed cover photo from the German satirical magazine “Titanic”. The cartoon of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky entitled “Successful counterattack in your own pants” spread rapidly on platforms such as Facebook, TikTok and Twitter.
It's this fake Titanic cover that says "Successful counterattack in your own pants."

Fact check: Search the magazine archive for the cover with “Successful counterattack in your own pants”
Our first stop takes us to the online archive of the Titanic magazine, where all published cover images are digitized and publicly accessible. Looking through the archives, especially the June 2023 issue, there is no trace of a cover with the title “Successful counterattack in your own pants,” which corresponds to the fake circulating on social media.

Fact check: scour social media
To make sure the cover wasn't shared exclusively on the magazine's social media channels, we searched Titanic's official Twitter and Facebook pages. But here too, no trace of the supposed cover.
The real June 2023 cover
The real cover of Titanic magazine from June 2023 is dedicated to the European border and coastal protection agency Frontex - a clear difference from the fake edition.

A pattern of disinformation
This type of counterfeit is not new. There have been similar cases of disinformation in the past, with fake Titanic covers purporting to show caricatures of President Zelensky. The repetition of such patterns highlights the need to remain constantly vigilant and question information.
Conclusion Our fact check shows clearly: The supposed Titanic cover with President Zelensky is a fake. No evidence could be found in archives or social networks and the real cover photo from June 2023 shows a completely different motif. In a time when disinformation is just a click away, it is important to question information critically and not share it too hastily. Media literacy and fact-checking are essential to protect yourself from the flood of misinformation that streams at us every day.
5 tips on how users can protect themselves from such fakes
Tip 1: Check sources
Before sharing or responding to information, make sure you know where it came from. Trusted media, academic institutions and government agencies are often good sources. If the source is unknown, you should be skeptical.
Tip 2: Cross-verification
Try to confirm the information elsewhere. Do an internet search or look at the websites of organizations or media outlets that are generally trustworthy. If only one source is disseminating a particular piece of information, it may be an indication that it is not true.
Tip 3: Understand the context
Pay attention to the date and context of information. Sometimes old images or articles are republished to create a false perception of current events.
Tip 4: Be critical of extreme stories
If a story is particularly sensational or emotionally charged, you should be particularly careful. Fake news often aims to evoke strong emotions in order to persuade people to pass it on without thought.
