Will Germany and Austria break the record heat of 48 degrees? No. But we also sweat a lot here.
We received inquiries about a website called Newsner . This explains that a meteorologist is sounding the alarm and that deadly 50 degree heat is coming to Europe.
This gives the impression that Germany and Austria could also be affected by the 50 degrees.
Is that correct? Are the already very high temperatures also climbing above 40 degrees in Germany and Austria?
The fact check
There is currently a heat wave in Europe. But only in southern Europe do you have to expect temperatures of up to 50 degrees.
SRF Meteo actually predicted 47 degrees for Portugal and Spain.
47° in the forecast, will we break the European record today? #Spain and #Portugal are hot candidates. The current record holder is #Athens with 48° on July 10, 1977 as the highest temperature ever recorded in Europe. #Dürresommer18 ^chs pic.twitter.com/tmgwLe25Nr

According to the weather service, the European heat record could be broken. In 1977, 48 degrees were recorded in the Greek capital Athens.
And what does that mean for Germany and Austria? The German Weather Service forecasts highs of up to 38 degrees for Tuesday, August 7th, 2018.

Admittedly not pleasant and very extreme for German conditions, but 50 degrees are not expected here at the moment. It looks similar in Austria.
The Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics forecasts highs of up to 35 degrees for Tuesday, August 7th, 2018.

Result:
The 50 degrees are currently only forecast for southern Europe. The Iberian Peninsula in particular has to prepare for record heat.
In Germany and Austria the values are currently not climbing above 40 degrees.
