It's always the same game: a voucher for a well-known company is promised, but in the end the participant only goes “home” with advertising.

We continually report on fake competitions. The alleged prize ranges from a voucher to a new car, but in very few cases does the participant actually win something themselves. Quite the opposite: Many of these competitions lead to data collectors. So it's a marketing ploy to attract participants.

These voucher competitions have particularly caught our attention at the moment: Aldi , Lidl , Rossmann .

A pattern – not a coincidence

If you compare the design of the three competitions, you will notice that they are structured in absolutely the same way. From the design of the bait to the exit - this is no coincidence. There is a model behind it here.

All of these links lead to the same result: First, the participant should complete an obligatory round of questions, it doesn't matter what answers they give. He wins in any case.

Anyone who ends the question round is redirected to a data entry mask and this is where the actual trap springs. The organizers want the participant's data to pass it on to a sponsor list. These sponsors are then allowed to flood the user with advertising material.

The organizers are called leads. You generate leads in order to lure the participant precisely.

Affiliate programs

We have often found EXACTLY THIS method, just with other vouchers as bait. In addition to Green Flamingo, other lead generators also collect data - much to the annoyance of the companies used as decoys. So far we have mostly noticed 7sections, Proleagion, adpublisher, red lemon media GmbH, Lead Spot Media, GmbH and Planet49.

The user is promised and led to believe something that is not true at all. The status post gives the user the impression that they could win cars, sweets, gift cards or, in other cases, airline tickets, but that is not the case.

not in themselves ! This is a business model in which the respective provider of such programs compensates its sales partners through commissions.

How exactly this works can be found under “ What is Affiliate ?”
