Anyone who opens Twitter today will find several top topics that revolve exclusively around Iran and war. This is due to a US attack on an Iranian general.
As the Tagesschau reported in the morning, the influential commander of the Al-Kuds Brigade, Soleimani, was killed in an air strike in Iraq. More about this HERE .

Iran, in turn, announced severe retaliation. There is now a lot of discussion about the topic on social media, especially on Twitter. Many of those involved already see a coming war. Even the hashtags #WWIII and #worldwar3 are trending.
Many users on Twitter are saying that the election year has begun in the USA and that Trump wants to distract from political problems with the attack.
Reactions to Soleimani
For others, this blow was unexpected, especially given that all eyes were currently on Libya. ARD editor Jan-Henrik Wiebe writes on Twitter:

Interestingly, Trump himself has so far only made a wordless statement on Twitter. All he did was post a picture of the US flag on Twitter tonight. For Trump, who usually likes to express himself loudly and with malice on Twitter ( compare ), this reaction has so far been surprisingly calm (but also provocative).
