This Monday morning I was surprised myself: When Trump's Twitter account was reactivated ( we reported ), I checked myself and saw several million followers. I didn't follow him myself, but instead just set up a column with his account in the Tweetdeck so that as a Mimikama author I could see more quickly when he was writing nonsense again.
But now I suddenly followed him. And not just me, many other users too!
The miraculous increase in followers
Shortly after Musk reactivated Trump's Twitter account, he received a bitter rebuff : At the meeting of the Republican Jewish Coalition in Las Vegas, he explained via video link that he saw no reason to be on Twitter again to be active. He also sees a lot of problems with Twitter and prefers to stay on his own platform “Truth Social,” which is “ very, very strong .”
Of course, that can change quickly when Trump starts the election campaign for the US presidency in 2024, but for now he doesn't want to tweet. But does Musk now want to make the platform more palatable to the ex-president? Because suddenly he has a huge number of followers again of 87 million - including users who said they never followed him!
I also suddenly followed him, which had not happened before. And it wasn't just me:
Actually, I was also added as a follower somehow 😱 so that's how his follower count comes together! Sent following 🤬

Yeah, no. Definitely not!

And I doubt that for a large proportion of the others too! pic.twitter.com/RpxSRCpERX
An old database recording?
Now I'm not sure whether I haven't followed at some Other users also write that they followed him at least at the beginning of his term in office:
I followed him at the beginning of his term. But I actually thought the account had been reset to 0. 🤔

An interesting theory comes from a user who suspects that an old database with all the followers Trump ever had may have been restored:
Did they then restore followers from an old data backup? His record? Or all the followers he's ever had?

This apparently also includes followers who haven't been active for years, so they definitely haven't clicked on "Follow" again:
Ok, because very VERY many people follow him automatically without meaning to.
— Vorish (@Vorish_) November 21, 2022
e.g. also accounts of friends of mine who have not been active on Twitter for 4 years.
That is very strange.
Conclusion
Trump definitely only had a few followers when he was reactivated;
on the contrary, he even lost followers. 1.8 million followers at 2:44 a.m. 865,400 followers at 3 a.m. 5.7 million followers at 6:09 a.m. and suddenly 86.4 million followers p.m.
So if you're also on Twitter, check for yourself whether you're suddenly following the ex-president (see HERE ).
