Twitter is looking for new ways to present media content to its users on their profile pages. Especially with videos, the platform wants to offer a completely new user experience through a new visual design, changed controls and direct integration into user profiles. But there should also be a more lucrative sales perspective for content producers. The aim is to position itself as a strong competitor to YouTube.
Upgrade video area
“Twitter is increasing its focus on visuals to reimagine its user experience under Elon Musk,” writes SocialMediaToday. The busy US billionaire attaches great importance to upgrading the video area on the online network and providing it with specific improvements. The first step in this direction could be changing the “Media” menu item, which will in future be embedded in an Instagram-like grid on users’ profile pages, as a first draft by Twitter designer Andrea Conway shows.
Next, a separate “video” button could even be launched. “A separate tab for videos could be coming soon. Like TikTok, this could list a stream of video content that users can then easily browse. “The best video uploads on Twitter are highlighted in real time,” the website quotes from a post by Twitter boss Musk himself.
Better sales potential
In addition to the planned changes at the user experience level, the US company also wants to ensure that more video content is produced for its own site in the long term. In order to achieve this, the levers will primarily be used in the monetization options for creative creators. These are to be improved in the future so that Twitter will even overtake YouTube in terms of sales potential, which transfers over ten billion dollars (around 9.06 billion euros) to its content producers every year.
