Twitter blocks Mastodon and the accounts of several journalists

Many of those affected had reported on or criticized Elon Musk in the previous days. Now Musk is starting a survey as to whether he should unblock the accounts that have doxxed his exact location in real time!

Twitter has blocked accounts of competitor Mastodon and several journalists. As Süddeutsche currently reports, in addition to Mastodon, reporters from the New York Times, the Washington Post and CNN, among others, are also affected by the ban.

As of Thursday, December 15, 2022, the accounts of reporters including The Washington Post , The New York Times , Mashable and CNN were listed as blocked. The tweets were no longer visible, with the company's standard notice saying it "suspends accounts that violate the Twitter Rules."

The feed of competitor also affected!

Twitter also blocked Mastodon's feed! He had posted a link on her Twitter page to an account on her own website that uses publicly available flight data to track Musk's private jet . A day earlier, on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, Twitter blocked several accounts that tracked the location of private jets, including that of Elon Musk.

Not clear and obvious why the accounts were blocked

As of now, it is not clear what all the current suspensions have in common. On Thursday evening, Musk indicated that the account suspension was also related to the suspension of his private jet ( HERE ). Musk replied to a user's tweet that he had confirmed that a majority of the suspended accounts had posted links to the jet tracker.

On the individual pages of the accounts you can only read the information that the accounts in question violated the Twitter rules and were therefore blocked, as can be seen from Mastodon's account:

Musk, a fighter for free speech?!

Musk himself tweeted on April 25, 2022 that he hoped that even his worst critics would stay on Twitter because this means freedom of expression

New York Times Opinion

The New York Times, however, said: “Neither our editorial team nor the colleague concerned received an explanation as to why their accounts were blocked. We hope that all of the journalists’ accounts will be restored and that Twitter will provide a satisfactory explanation for this action.”

The New York Times writes in an article:

“Neither our editorial team nor the colleague concerned received an explanation as to why their accounts were blocked. We hope that all journalists' accounts will be restored and that Twitter will provide a satisfactory explanation for this action." ( Source )

Musk is, once again, launching a survey!

On December 16, 2022, Musk is launching a survey on this topic and wants to know whether he should unblock the accounts that doxxed his exact location in real time!

Not the first time that Musk has started such dubious surveys!

Twitter boss Elon Musk asked his followers on November 19, 2022 whether ex-President Donald Trump's blocked account should be unblocked. The majority voted in favor and a short time later, Trump's account was accessible again! ( Here )
