It all started when the new CEO – or Chief Twit, as Musk now called himself in his Twitter bio – kicked out around 50 percent of the employees.

This apparently includes a number of employees who are actually urgently needed. In the second week of November, the company also cut off 4,400 of its external employees, who were primarily responsible for moderation and infrastructure.

Mathias Brandt, data journalist from Statista.com, has published a graphic showing the estimated number of employees employed by Twitter.

The drama reached its next climax when Musk ultimately an email asking his remaining employees to commit to an “extremely hardcore” corporate culture. Anyone who didn't want to go along was to be fired with three months' salary in severance pay. According to Fortune journalist estimates, around 75 percent of the remaining 3,700 Twitter employees have decided to leave. At the moment there seems to be hardly anyone left who could run the store.
