The short messaging service Twitter has now permanently blocked the account of outgoing US President Donald Trump. This means that Trump is now missing his most important mouthpiece.

After a temporary ban, US President Donald Trump has had his Twitter account shut down. At his address you can only see the information about the blocking, but no more content.

@realdonaldtrump / Account suspended / Twitter suspends accounts that violate the Twitter Rules .

Also affected is the Twitter profile of his campaign team called @TeamTrump .

Other online networks also react by blocking them

In addition to Facebook, which also owns Instagram (we reported on it here and here ) - and Twitter, a number of other Internet platforms locked Trump and his supporters out of their networks in the wake of the storm on the Capitol.

On Reddit, the r/DonaldTrump forum was removed and Twitch blocked the president's livestream channel! The server called “The Donald” was also deactivated on the communication platform Discord.

Twitter itself writes about it (translation)

Permanent suspension of @realDonaldTrump

After careful review of the @realDonaldTrump account's recent tweets and the context in which they appear - particularly how they are received and interpreted on and off Twitter - we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement to violence.

In the context of this week's horrific events, we made it clear on Wednesday that further violations of the Twitter Rules would potentially result in exactly this course of action. Our public interest framework exists to give the public the opportunity to hear directly from elected officials and world leaders. It is based on the principle that the people have a right to hold power to account publicly.

However, we made it clear years ago that these accounts are not completely above our rules and are not allowed to use Twitter to incite violence, among other things. We will continue to be transparent about our policies and their enforcement.

Below is a comprehensive analysis of our policy enforcement approach in this case.

overview

On January 8, 2021, President Donald J. Trump tweeted:

“The 75,000,000 great American Patriots who voted for me, AMERICA FIRST, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, will have a GIANT VOICE long into the future. They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape or form!!!”

“The 75,000,000 great American patriots who voted for me, AMERICA FIRST and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN will continue to have a GIANT VOICE. You will not be treated disrespectfully or unfairly in any way, shape or form!!!”

Shortly afterwards, the president tweeted:

“To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th.”

“To everyone who asked: I will not be going to the inauguration on January 20th.”

Due to ongoing tensions in the United States and an increase in global conversation regarding the people who violently stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021, these two tweets must be read in the context of the broader events in the country and the manner in which they occurred , how the president's statements can be mobilized by various audiences, including incitement to violence, and in the context of this account's pattern of behavior in recent weeks. After evaluating the language in these tweets in light of our policy against glorifying violence, we have determined that these tweets violate our policy against glorifying violence and the user @realDonaldTrump should be permanently banned from the service immediately.

Evaluation

We evaluated the two tweets above according to our glorification of violence policy, which aims to prevent the glorification of violence that could inspire others to repeat acts of violence, and found that they have a high likelihood of encouraging and inspiring people to do so , repeating the criminal acts that took place at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.

This determination is based on a number of factors including:

President Trump's declaration that he will not attend the inauguration is seen by a number of his supporters as further confirmation that the election was illegitimate and as a disavowal of his previous assertion, which he made via two tweets (1, 2). ) of his deputy chief of staff Dan Scavino had said that there would be an “orderly transition” on January 20th.
The second tweet may also serve as an encouragement to those who may be considering violent acts that the inauguration would be a "safe" destination since he will not be attending.
The use of the words “American Patriots” to describe some of his supporters has also been interpreted as support for those committing acts of violence at the US Capitol.
Mentioning his supporters with a "HUGE VOICE long into the future" and that "You will not be treated disrespectfully or unfairly in any way, shape or form!!!" is seen as further indication that President Trump does not plan to have a " “orderly transition” and instead that he plans to continue to support, empower, and protect those who believe he won the election.
Plans for future armed protests have already begun to spread on and off Twitter, including a proposed second attack on the US Capitol and State Capitol Buildings on January 17, 2021.
As such, our determination is that the two tweets above are likely to inspire others to replicate the violent acts that took place on January 6, 2021, and that there are several indicators that they will be received and understood as encouragement to do so.

Reacted way too late?

Blocking the accounts almost seems a little desperate, since Trump has been encouraging his supporters to protest for a long time: he doesn't know QAnon, but he thinks it's good because they support him, the violent "Proud Boys" are patriots, and also demands it he asked to come to Washington on January 6th.

Digital expert Dennis Horn published his thoughts on this on Facebook ( see HERE ):
The bans for Donald Trump on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube or Snapchat seem to me a little like the fire department bringing out a lot of fire water while the house has already burned down .”

The bans for Donald Trump on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Snapchat also seem to me a little like...
