Crizpy: Let's put social media where it's most fun.
Almost twelve million years ago, in the region of today's Unterallgäu, a great ape was already walking on two legs. Scientists named the fossil finds of a previously unknown human species “Udo”. The role model was old rocker Lindenberg. Rock musician Udo Lindenberg feels honored by the researchers. The 73-year-old said: “I have always been a fan of walking upright.” Because Primate Udo could fundamentally question the current view of human evolutionary history.
According to scientists, its skeleton suggests that upright walking developed in Europe rather than Africa and earlier than previously thought. “It’s a great moment for science and a great honor for me,” said Hamburg-based musician Udo Lindenberg.
Between 2015 and 2018, an international team of researchers discovered 37 individual finds of the previously unknown primate species in a stream in the “Hammerschmiede” clay pit in Lower Allgäu. The finds are said to be 12 million years old. To date, the oldest evidence of upright walking is around 6 million years old and comes from the island of Crete and Kenya. For the researchers, the so-called “Bavarian Danuvius Guggenmosi” represents a great moment in evolutionary research.
