A lot of people are currently receiving chain letters via social media and WhatsApp. The chain letter refers to a supposed campaign in which church bells across Europe are supposed to ring “TONIGHT”.
The “Church Bells” chain letter reads as follows:
????UKRAINE
The church bells will ring tonight at 8 p.m.???
Also turn off the lights in your houses to
show Putin that we would rather sit in the dark than buy his gas and oil.
This is an action that takes place across Europe and simultaneously in London (7 p.m.), Central Europe (we), Kiev (9 p.m.) and Moscow (10 p.m.).
Please forward this message.?
It cannot be verified whether this is all taking place, because according to the chain letter, this action is supposed to take place “TONIGHT”.
The problem here is that every day is “TODAY”. Unfortunately no date is mentioned here. So if the chain letter was already on the way yesterday, yesterday was already “TODAY”.
There is also no usable information on the internet that points to an actual action. There are various local, smaller campaigns with different times, but there is no Europe-wide campaign at 8 p.m.
However, the T-Online website points out a Europe-wide campaign. However, this is scheduled to take place on Thursday, March 3rd, at 12 p.m. A few churches from the Nuremberg . However, turning off the light is not mentioned at all.
As always, these actions cannot be described as “fake”. People want to act and help. That is also completely legitimate. But actions that perhaps don't exist in this form won't help anyone. You can participate or not. But in the end, don't be surprised if the church bells don't ring or the neighbor's lights are still on. Because “TODAY” could have already been yesterday. “TODAY” is on social media every day. And for a “TODAY” campaign, unfortunately we cannot find any information that confirms this campaign in this form.
